One Quote :
“Writing, like life itself, is a voyage of discovery. The adventure is a metaphysical one: it is a way of approaching life indirectly, of acquiring a total rather than a partial view of the universe. The writer lives between the upper and lower worlds: he takes the path in order eventually to become that path himself.” ~ Henry Miller.
This is one of my favorite Henry miller Quotes on writing and maintaining a good productive routine.

In today’s newsletter , we will dive deep into the wisdom and virtues of the legendary writer and artist - “Henry Miller”. His productivity routine to write daily and his creative thinking. I have also included his blueprint of productivity that he follows through his day.
I hope that everyone here is familiar with the legacy of this legendary and great writer - his sense of understanding , his theme of stories and his art.
What I love about these notes is that they’re aimed by Miller only for himself—without a glimmer of self-consciousness, nor even for a moment intended for public dissemination. Here is a writer lashing himself to the mast, though not too tightly, as he bears down on what would become his first published novel, Tropic of Cancer.
These are the 11 Commandments :
1. Work on one thing at a time until finished.
2. Start no more new books, add no new material to Black Spring.
3. Don’t be nervous. Work calmly, joyously, recklessly on whatever is in hand.
4. Work according to Program and not according to mood. Stop at the appointed time!
5. When you can’t create you can work.
6. Cement a little every day, rather than add new fertilizers.
7. Keep human! See people, go places, drink if you feel like it.
8. Don’t be a draught-horse! Work with pleasure only.
9. Discard the Program when you feel like it—but go back to it the next day. Concentrate. Narrow down. Exclude.
10. Forget the books you want to write. Think only of the book you are writing.
11. Write first and always. Painting, music, friends, cinema, all these come afterwards
Under a part titled Daily Program, his routine also featured the following wonderful blueprint for productivity, inspiration, and mental health:
MORNINGS:
If groggy, type notes and allocate, as stimulus.
If in a fine fettle, write.
AFTERNOONS:
Work of section in hand, following plan of section scrupulously. No intrusions, no diversions. Write to finish one section at a time, for good and all.
EVENINGS:
See friends. Read in cafés.
Explore unfamiliar sections — on foot if wet, on bicycle if dry.
Write, if in mood, but only on Minor programs.
Paint if empty or tired.
Make Notes. Make Charts, Plans. Make corrections of MS.
There are also some things that I learned from these commandments that I put down to myself.
First , Work on one thing at a time until finished . I really like this line . We should not always multitask things , only do one thing at a time. When we multitask things , we lose focus , control on which we had the most and thus , we don't get the desired outcomes as we want it to be.
Second , Discard the program when you don’t like it - but get back to the next day . Concentrate , practice and exclude . Narrow down all the ills that you might encounter while writing down and perform the best on the next day.
Third , forget about the books that you want to write , focus on the books that you are writing . This point explains well of our focus . We should forget about something which is out of our league right now , but we need to focus on things which we are doing now!.
I love the balance of his Program. Henry Miller cuts himself abundant slack. “See friends, drink if you feel like it.” “Stop at the appointed time!”
And the deepest wisdom of all: “Work calmly, joyously, recklessly on whatever is in hand.”
